Philip Pratt Is Leaving Amazon MGM After 11 Years to Lead Disney+ Originals in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria

After more than a decade at Amazon MGM Studios, Philip Pratt is heading to Disney+. The outgoing Head of Original Productions will join the streamer early next year as VP overseeing original production across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, reporting to Angela Jain, Disney+'s EMEA content boss.
Pratt spent 11 years at Amazon MGM, where he built out the German-language slate for Prime Video — a run that included productions like "Maxton Hall," "LOL: Last One Laughing," and "The 50." That's a meaningful body of work, and it's clearly what caught Disney's attention.
Jain framed the hire in terms of ambition. "As we grow our local originals for Disney+ in EMEA, we want to back bold, distinctive storytelling that feels relevant to local audiences and can stand out and get noticed," she said in a statement. "Philip's creative track record and experience make him the perfect person to lead that work across Germany, Switzerland and Austria."
Disney+ has been investing in German-language content since 2021, when it launched its first local originals in the market. Past titles include "Sam A Saxon," "The Interpreter of Silence," and "Call my Agent Berlin." The pipeline Pratt is walking into includes "Vienna Game," "Nele Neuhaus Monster," "Westwell," and the Swiss production "Under The Ice," among others.
The broader context here matters. Under new CEO Josh D'Amaro, Disney has signaled plans to triple the volume of international shows on Disney+ — a significant bet on local-language content as a growth lever. Pratt's hire fits squarely into that strategy.
For his part, Pratt sounded genuinely enthusiastic rather than just diplomatically so. "I envision Disney+ to be a creative home where producers and talent come together, take bold ideas forward and create extraordinary entertainment," he said. "It is an honour to join The Walt Disney Company."
No exact start date has been confirmed beyond early 2027.
